Bonhams Launches its First Initiative in Saudi Arabia
Bonhams marks its Saudi debut with a landmark exhibition celebrating the roots of Saudi modernism at Riyadh’s JAX District.
Bonhams, the world-renowned auction house, has announced its debut initiative in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone for the Kingdom’s art scene. The initiative includes an exclusive exhibition and a series of cultural programs designed to highlight the evolution of Saudi modernism and its leading pioneers.
The exhibition, titled Judhoor / Roots: The Origins of Saudi Modernism, will bring together an extraordinary collection of works and archival materials from some of the Kingdom’s most influential modernist artists.
Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with the legacies of Mohammed Al Saleem, Abdullah Al Shaikh, Bakr Sheikhoun, Abdulrahman Al Soliman, and several others whose works have shaped the trajectory of contemporary Saudi art.
A key highlight of this landmark exhibition is the inclusion of works by the late Safeya Binzagr, marking the first time an international auction house has showcased her contributions.
Binzagr, widely regarded as one of Saudi Arabia’s most important female artists, is celebrated for her role in documenting and preserving the country’s cultural heritage through art.
The exhibition will be hosted at LIFT Gallery in Riyadh’s JAX District from 8 to 10 October 2025, positioning the creative hub as the perfect venue for fostering dialogue between past and present art movements. Through this initiative, Bonhams not only pays tribute to the Kingdom’s artistic roots but also reinforces Saudi Arabia’s growing role on the global cultural map.
By presenting Judhoor / Roots, Bonhams continues its mission to support artists and expand audiences while bridging international art markets with the Gulf’s creative voices. The event underscores Saudi Arabia’s dynamic cultural landscape and highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to nurturing and celebrating its modern artistic heritage.
