A passenger who lost a bag containing $20,000 and 150 grams of gold at Dubai International Airport was reunited with her belongings just before her flight out of the country.
The Arab traveler misplaced her bag in Terminal 1 and felt overwhelmed about how to report it while worrying about missing her flight to Saudi Arabia.
An alert airport staff member spotted the black bag in an open area and immediately informed Dubai Police security teams at the terminal.
Since no lost property report had been filed, police had to act quickly to identify the bag’s owner before she boarded her flight.
Colonel Abdullah Faisal Al Dosari, Director of the Terminal 1 Security Department, explained, “Upon inspecting its contents, the bag was found to contain $20,000, 150 grams of gold, other currencies, mobile phones of various brands, and personal documents.”
Col Al Dosari added that identifying the owner required forming a team to trace her movements, as no claim matching the bag’s description had been lodged.
“The operations room was notified, and steps were taken to locate the bag’s owner. It turned out she was about to leave for Saudi Arabia,” he said. “She was extremely worried about losing her bag, unsure how to proceed, and afraid of missing her flight.”
Dubai Police returned the bag to the traveler after verifying her ownership, ensuring all necessary documents and permits were in place.
The grateful passenger thanked Dubai Police for their swift action and for helping her conclude her trip to Dubai on a positive note.
Another Successful Case
This is the second instance in a week where Dubai Police’s Airport Security has assisted passengers who lost their belongings.
Recently, police returned a black bag containing silver worth Dh2 million to a traveler from Asia at the airport.
The passenger realized he had misplaced his bag before boarding his flight at Terminal 1 and immediately alerted the authorities.
Officers quickly checked CCTV footage and retraced his movements within the terminal and departure halls. They successfully found the bag and returned it to him after verifying his ownership.
