A huge 35-mile-long rift was discovered over there, in Ethiopia, in 2005. Scientists from the study "Magma-Maintained Rift Segmentation Enabled by Whole-Crust Magma Intrusion" in Geophysical Research Letters demonstrated that the continent is being actively split by the magma upwelling. So, it might lead to the formation of a new ocean in the future.
