Eris is a Dwarf planet whose existence still baffles planetary science, lying in the frigid Kuiper belt, past Neptune, in our Solar System. Scientists believed for years that this frozen world was dead, and lacked any gaseous envelope. Recent observations of Eris, however, indicate that Eris could have a far more dynamic and transient atmosphere than is usually the case, and that the concept of atmosphere behavior at the frozen margins of space is in need of a re-thinking.
