Bahraini Swimmers Honored for Completing 44.5km Swim from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain

Two Bahraini swimmers were lauded on Tuesday for completing a remarkable open-water swim spanning 44.5 kilometres from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain, a feat praised as a symbol of endurance and national pride.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, honored the athletes for successfully completing the challenging “Khalid bin Hamad (KHK) Swimming Challenge,” braving strong sea currents and completing the swim in just over 22 hours.

The duo — Abdulla Attiya and Loai Tashkandi — tackled the demanding course that took them from the Saudi coastline across open water to Bahraini shores, showcasing exceptional stamina and determination. Their achievement drew praise from Shaikh Khalid, who emphasized the importance of such accomplishments in fostering teamwork, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle among Bahrain’s youth.

“This extraordinary feat reflects the spirit, resilience and commitment of our athletes,” Shaikh Khalid said as he congratulated the swimmers on their success. He noted that their accomplishment not only highlights Bahrain’s growing presence in competitive open-water swimming but also inspires others to pursue sporting excellence.

The event adds a proud chapter to Bahrain’s sporting achievements and underscores the nation’s commitment to supporting athletes who push physical and mental boundaries on the international stage.
