Port Of NEOM Is Now Open For Business

Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday the opening of its new Port of NEOM, which is located in Oxagon, the NEOM mega project's home of advanced and clean industries.

The port was once known as Duba Port and is now being transformed into the main seaport of entry to the northwest of Saudi Arabia.

In 2022, NEOM took over operation of Duba Port from national maritime authority Mawani

The goal, according to Nadhmi Al Nasr, CEO of NEOM, is to create one of the most technologically advanced, efficient and sustainable ports in the world with the first completely integrated and automated supply chain and logistics network.

“Our investment to date of over 7.5 billion Saudi riyals ($2 billion) and our intention to open the first advanced terminal in 2025 demonstrates our commitment to the vision.”

CMA CGM, a global provider in sea, air, land, and logistics solutions, operates the first fixed call container service.

Jacobs served as the primary design consultant for the redesign project, with Moffatt and Nichol, IGO, and Trent serving as primary subconsultants.

The SAR 180 million redesign project includes ports, warehouses, rail deliveries, infrastructure, a sustainable energy network, and other features.

For the first phase, the BESIX, Boskalis, and Modern Building Leaders consortium was granted a design and build lump sum contract for more than SAR 2 billion.

Saudi Liebherr was awarded contracts for ten mobile harbour cranes for more than SAR 200 million.

The first Container Terminal, with integrated supply chain and logistical solutions, will be operational by the beginning of 2025.

When completed, the port will be the world's most sustainable next-generation port, operating at net carbon zero levels with 100% renewable energy at source.
