Real Madrid has Officially Announced Karim Benzema is Leaving the Club

After spending 14 years in the Spanish capital, Karim Benzema is set to leave the Spanish club Real Madrid this summer.

On Sunday, Real Madrid confirmed the departure of 35-year-old Karim Benzema through an official statement posted on the club's website and social media. The statement praised the striker, referring to him as a crucial player during the club's golden era and one of the club's 'greatest legends'.

Madrid has also revealed their plans to organize a tribute and farewell event in the city on Tuesday, as a gesture of recognition for Karim Benzema's illustrious tenure as the club captain. The event aims to celebrate his remarkable achievements during his time with the club.

Sources told Saudi media outlet Al Ekhbarya that Karim Benzema is expected to join Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Arabian team based in Jeddah. The deal is reported to be valued at more than £172 million per year, making it a substantial move for the Ballon d'Or winner.

Al-Ittihad, which is currently under the management of former Wolves and Tottenham coach Nuno Espirito Santo, secured the victory in the 2022-23 Saudi Pro League, surpassing Al-Nassr led by Cristiano Ronaldo by a five-point margin.

Karim Benzema has made more than 600 appearances across various competitions for Real Madrid, making himself the second-highest goal scorer in the club's history behind only former teammate Ronaldo.
