Saudi Citizen Sentenced and Fined After Hiding Drugs in Wife's Car

The Saudi Public Prosecution on Monday reported that a Saudi resident has been sent to 20 years in jail and given over $26,600 fine for drug trafficking after police found narcotics he hid in his wife’s vehicle.

The individual in question was accused of possessing drugs in his belongings with the intent to sell them. Authorities seized 4,047 pregabalin pills secreted in many different places, along with 95 kilograms of the drug hashish, in his wife's car.

The man's family was unaware of the drugs, the prosecution claims, and believed he was merely using the car to drive his wife to Jeddah in preparation for an upcoming Umrah pilgrimage.

The punishment for drug smugglers, sellers, and users is different under the Kingdom's Narcotics Control Law.

Drug traffickers who smuggle drugs into the nation illegally risk receiving the death penalty. Dealers and individuals can be punished with lengthy prison terms, heavy fines, and deportation.
