Algeria came from behind to beat Jordan at Levi’s Stadium and secured their first World Cup win since 2014.

Jordan took the lead in the 36th minute through Nizar Al-Rashdan, against the run of play. Algeria answered well in the second half and scored twice from corners, with goals from Nadhir Benbouali and Amine Gouiri, to take all three points.

This result moves Algeria to three points in Group J, level with Austria, and ends Jordan’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage. It also confirms Argentina in first place in the group.

It was a deserved win for Algeria, but Jordan came very close to producing a memorable World Cup upset. Before Algeria’s substitutes made an impact, their missed chances looked like they could cost them the match.

Player of the Match: Ibrahim Maza

Subdued in the first half, decisive after the break. Once Algeria needed a response, it was Maza who provided the spark — gliding through midfield, peeling around the right of the Jordan defence, forcing saves from Abulaila and driving the comeback with relentless energy. He did not get on the score sheet, but he was the engine of Algeria's transformation after the break. On the night the North African giants finally found their rhythm, the young attacker was at the heart of everything good.
