Many Makkah Schools Switch to Distance Learning Due to Hajj 2026

 In preparation for the upcoming Hajj 2026 pilgrimage, the General Directorate of Education in the Makkah region has announced a temporary shift to distance learning for a select group of schools in the holy city. Starting next week, educational institutions located in high-priority zones will suspend in-person classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, transitioning to approved digital platforms to ensure the continuity of education without disrupting the pilgrimage operations.

The decision is a key component of the government's integrated strategy to manage the massive influx of pilgrims expected in Makkah. By moving students online during peak operational days, authorities aim to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and reduce vehicle density on vital arteries. This measure is designed to facilitate smoother movement for pilgrims, service providers, and emergency vehicles, while supporting security and traffic authorities in executing their management plans for the central areas and main thoroughfares.

The schools selected for this transition were identified based on their geographical proximity to critical Hajj infrastructure. The list includes institutions surrounding the Grand Mosque (Central Haram Area), schools situated along major arterial roads such as the Second and Third Ring Roads, and facilities designated as headquarters for government agencies directly involved in Hajj services. The administration has confirmed that high-level coordination is underway with relevant authorities to ensure seamless operations during this period.

Educational leaders and staff have been instructed to closely monitor digital platforms, including the Madrasati system, to guarantee that students receive full access to their scheduled lessons. The Makkah Education Department emphasized that this initiative highlights the flexibility and adaptability of the Saudi educational system. It demonstrates the sector's capacity to align with major national requirements, balancing the comfort and safety of millions of pilgrims with the uninterrupted delivery of quality education for local students.
