Scientists Discover a Tiny World Beyond Neptune With an Impossible Atmosphere

A small, strange object is circling the far outskirts of the solar system at an extremely cold orbit beyond Neptune. This distant object has an atmosphere with a unique composition that doesn't match current planetary science theories, and contradicts our knowledge of thermal physics. Normally, small bodies at this cold temperature don't have enough gravity to hold onto much of a gas. This is the first discovery of its kind, challenging researchers' understanding of how volatile elements behave in extreme environments in deep space.
