Saudi Arabia and Bahrain's Interior Ministers recently conducted an on-site inspection of the King Fahd Causeway, signaling plans for significant expansion to ease cross-border travel.

Saudi Arabia’s Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef and Bahrain’s Interior Minister Lt-Gen. Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa recently reviewed ongoing development plans for the King Fahd Causeway. These improvements aim to streamline travel and reduce wait times for the thousands who cross daily. Joined by Eastern Province’s Deputy Governor, the ministers were briefed on efforts to upgrade processing facilities to accommodate higher travel volumes.
Built in 1981 and inaugurated in 1985, the 25-kilometer causeway connects Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, to Al Jasra Island, Bahrain, and is pivotal for regional trade and tourism. The expansion is aligned with Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council goals, emphasizing bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit.
With these upgrades, officials anticipate enhanced trade and easier travel, bringing Saudi Arabia and Bahrain even closer together.
