The incident is suspected to be linked to a popular burger chain, although the ministry has not disclosed the company's name.

According to the ministry, 69 Saudi citizens and six non-Saudis have fallen ill due to Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium known to cause severe food poisoning. While 43 patients have recovered and been discharged, 11 are currently undergoing treatment, with 20 cases remaining in intensive care.

The outbreak has prompted an investigation by health authorities, with initial findings indicating a single company as the source of the contamination. The Riyadh Municipality has announced the closure of all branches and food-processing facilities belonging to the implicated chain in Riyadh and al-Kharj. Additionally, the municipality plans to impose fines on the company and oversee the disposal of all affected food products.

As authorities continue their investigation and cleanup efforts, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of food safety measures in the Kingdom.
