Only products and commodities allowed to be traded in the Kingdom will be accepted at the duty-free stores, conforming to the regulations and standards for their establishment, Saudi Arabia's Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) announced on Friday.

According to the unified customs law for the GCC countries, which includes the requirements related to the operation of duty-free markets, the authority has established the customs rules, conditions, and methods for establishing duty-free markets at air, sea, and land ports.

The decision, according to ZATCA, will boost supply chains and improve the logistical services provided to duty-free markets by offering a wide variety of goods and products for travel shopping. The Authority said, “The duty-free shops will grant additional sales channels to local companies by selling their products to the duty-free operators, which supports and contributes to the promotion of national products.”

Additionally, it has been clearly stated that duty-free stores can currently be found in the King Abdulaziz International Airport terminals in Jeddah, the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the King Fahad International Airport in Dammam, and the Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah. However, there are plans to expand the stores as required on land, sea, and airports. Duty-free marketplaces are establishments that are exempt from customs duties or taxes.
