Hot Weather and Dusty Winds Expected During Hajj 2026

Saudi Arabia’s National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) predicts extremely hot weather and dusty winds in Mecca and nearby holy sites during the 2026 Hajj season, with temperatures reaching up to 47°C.

The NCM stated that strong winds could cause dust and sand to rise, especially during the day, as millions of pilgrims gather for the sacred journey.

Ayman Ghulam, NCM’s Chief Executive, explained that from the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah until the Day of Tarwiyah, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 44°C and 47°C, while nighttime temperatures will be around 28°C to 31°C.

Humidity during this period will vary between 10% and 40%, and winds are expected to blow at speeds of 15 to 40 km/h from the south-west to the north-west.

From the Day of Arafat to the 13th of Dhu Al Hijjah, the weather will remain hot with clear to partly cloudy skies. Wind activity will continue, raising dust and sand. Temperatures during this time are predicted to range from 42°C to 44°C, with humidity reaching up to 55%.

The NCM also warned of potential thunderstorms in the highlands of Taif governorate, which may extend to the holy sites and cause downdrafts, further stirring up dust and sand.

To ensure smooth operations during Hajj, the NCM has prepared extensively. Modern tools like weather radars, satellite systems, monitoring stations, and AI technologies are in place to support authorities and provide accurate forecasts, helping pilgrims stay safe.

Throughout the Hajj season, weather monitoring will be ongoing across Mecca, Medina, and all holy sites, as well as routes used by pilgrims.
