Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz appointed Ayman bin Mohammed Al Sayari as the new governor of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

Al Sayari, who has also been elevated to the rank of minister, replaces Fahad Al Mubarak who has been appointed as a royal court advisor by the King.

Al Sayari had held the position of deputy governor of the central bank since 2019, and before that, he served as the deputy governor for investment at SAMA since 2013. He holds a master's degree in Finance from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree in Accounting from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.

Al Mubarak served as governor of the Central Bank from 2011 to 2016 and was reappointed for the job in 2021. He previously oversaw Morgan Stanley's Saudi Arabian unit and was chairman of the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul).
