The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has officially announced a new schedule for entry into Hijr Ismail, the sacred semi-circular area adjacent to the Holy Kaaba. Under the new guidelines, specific time slots have been allocated to ensure orderly access for both men and women. Women are permitted to enter Hijr Ismail daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Men, meanwhile, will have access during the night hours, specifically from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
Authority officials stated that these designated timings are part of a broader effort to streamline movement within the holy precincts. By separating access times, the administration hopes to facilitate smoother prayer and worship activities, reduce congestion, and provide a more serene environment for visitors seeking to perform prayers in this significant space.
A Site of Deep Historical Significance
Located on the northern side of the Holy Kaaba, Hijr Ismail holds a unique position in Islamic history and architecture. Although it appears simple in its current form, the site is deeply intertwined with the origins of the Kaaba.
Historical accounts indicate that the foundations originally laid by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail encompassed this area as an integral part of the Ancient House's structure. However, when the Quraysh tribe undertook the reconstruction of the Kaaba prior to the mission of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), they were forced to exclude Hijr Ismail from the final construction due to financial constraints. Consequently, the building was confined to the footprint seen today, leaving the original foundation outside the walls but still considered sacred.
The new scheduling system reflects the authorities' commitment to honoring this historical sanctity while accommodating the needs of the growing number of pilgrims and visitors flocking to Makkah.
