Twenty Umrah Pilgrims Killed and Many Injured in Bus Crash Near Abha

A bus travelling to Makkah crashed into a bridge, killing at least 20 Umrah pilgrims and injuring 29 others, at Aqaba Shaar in the southern Asir region on Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred on a road at Aqaba Shaar that connects Abha city with Mahayil Asir governate. 

The bus lost control after a brake failure, crashed into a bridge, overturned, and caught fire. The bus was carrying pilgrims to Makkah to perform Umrah.

Civil Defense, Saudi Red Crescent, and security teams hurried to the site of the crash and immediately started rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased people and the injured were taken to a number of hospitals in the region. 

Traffic movement was blocked for several hours along the road after the accident.
