A fresh wave of dust storms and high-speed winds is sweeping across Saudi Arabia this week, with the National Center for Meteorology issuing alerts for Riyadh, Qassim, Eastern Province, Madinah, and Makkah.
This comes after earlier red alerts were issued in the capital just weeks ago, officially marking the return of dusty days and murky skies.
Where’s the Dust Coming From?
The system, which kicked up in southern Iraq and Kuwait, is now drifting into Saudi territory. While Riyadh won’t get hit with full force, expect reduced visibility and rising levels of fine dust in the afternoon and evening hours. Arabia Weather reports that Eastern Province will face the brunt of the storm, with higher dust concentrations and limited horizontal visibility.
What Else is on the Radar?
As if the dust wasn’t enough, temperatures are rising, and wind speeds are picking up across the Kingdom. Winds along the Red Sea are expected to reach 20–55 km/h in the north and center, with wave heights ranging from half a meter to over two meters. Southern parts will experience gentler winds but still turbulent seas.
Oh, and don’t forget your umbrella (and mask): thunderstorms are expected in parts of Jazan and Aseer too.
