Saudi Arabia Plans to Consider a Four-Day Workweek

The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development said that the government is looking at the possibility of implementing a four-day workweek, that is, a 3-day weekend schedule in the country.
The Ministry confirms that it is looking into the potential of a 3-day weekend in response to a tweet. The labor system is reportedly being reviewed by the ministry, and any revisions that would grow employment generation targets would be taken into consideration.

The 3-day weekend in the Sharjah emirate began on January 1, 2022, and the UAE is the first nation in the Middle East to implement it. As a result of the 4-day workweek, sick leave has dropped by 46%, good communication between employees has grown by 81%, and productivity has increased by 88%.
Although the concept of a three-day weekend was initially floated in the 1920s, it wasn't until the 1970s that it gained significant acceptance. Four-day workweeks have been tried by companies including Amazon, Microsoft, and Shake Shack. Microsoft also tested a three-day weekend in Japan in 2019 with encouraging results.
