BREAKING: Australia, Canada Officially Recognize State of Palestine

Australia and Canada have formally recognized the State of Palestine, a landmark diplomatic shift announced just ahead of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.

In a joint statement, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong framed the recognition as part of a “co-ordinated international effort to build new momentum for a two-state solution.”

The statement added: “In doing so, Australia recognizes the legitimate and long held aspirations of the people of Palestine to a state of their own.”

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed Ottawa’s recognition in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Canada recognizes the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the state of Palestine and the State of Israel.”

The coordinated announcements mark a significant step in international diplomacy, placing both countries among a growing number of nations calling for renewed momentum toward peace in the Middle East.
