New Kiswah of Kaaba to Be Replaced on July 18th

The annual ceremony of changing the Kiswah Kaaba will take place on Dhul-Hijjah 29th, or Tuesday, July 18th, after the Isha prayer, to coincide with the beginning of the new Islamic year 1445 AH.

The annual tradition will be carried out by 200 experts and artisans under the direction of Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, president of the presidency.

Due to the sanctity of the structure, a new Kiswah is placed over the Kaaba every year. The antique Kiswah is donated to numerous organisations all over the world.

The 14-meter-tall garment is made from fine silk and has sacred Quranic phrases woven into its design using gold and silver threads.

It takes around 137 workers about eight months of hard effort to finish it, and it covers about 658 square meters.

The cover weighs about 670 kilogram and uses 15 kilogram of gold threads.
