This initiative includes issuing the visa for Hajj electronically and taking the vital characteristics. After that, the pilgrims pass through the complete passport procedures at the airport in the country of departure after their health requirements for Hajj have been verified.

The procedure also involves coding and sorting luggage based on accommodation arrangements in Saudi Arabia.

The initiative is implemented in 7 countries including Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, since its launch in 2019. The initiative is being implemented for the first time in Türkiye and the Ivory Coast in 2023.

The Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with its partners, has proceeded with the Makkah Route Initiative as part of Saudi Arabia's Pilgrim Experience Program, which is one of the Saudi Vision 2030 programs.
