Saudi Arabian Airlines, Saudia, has revealed its ambitious plan to introduce a fleet of flying taxis to facilitate the transportation of Hajj pilgrims between King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and hotels in Makkah. The move is part of Saudia's initiative to enhance travel experiences for pilgrims during the holy seasons of Hajj and Umrah.

Innovative Lilium Jets for Seamless Travel
In a groundbreaking development, Saudia has entered into a contract to acquire 100 Lilium jets, cutting-edge German electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. These electric planes, designed to operate solely on electric power, will connect the Jeddah airport to airstrips in hotels near the Grand Mosque and other sacred locations in Makkah.
Green and Efficient Aviation
Abdullah Al-Shahrani, the Director of Corporate Communications and Spokesman for the Saudia Group, emphasized the environmentally friendly nature of the Lilium aircraft, boasting low carbon emissions. With the ability to cover a maximum distance of 250 km, these electric planes aim to reduce travel time and contribute to sustainable air travel.
Advanced Service and Elite Experiences
Saudia envisions deploying these flying taxis not only for Hajj transportation but also to establish an advanced service connecting various travel destinations. The Lilium aircraft accommodates four to six passengers, offering a unique cabin with flexible seating arrangements and spacious interiors tailored to meet the needs of elite travelers seeking premium travel experiences.
