The Prime Minister is now granted the authority to give citizenship, this amendment was made to Article 8 by higher authorities in the Kingdom.

The amendment replaced the phrase of “by decision of the Minister of Interior” in Article 8 with “by an order of the Prime Minister based on Minister of Interior proposal”.

Article 8 of the Saudi Arabian Nationality System now states that under certain conditions, Saudi citizenship may be granted to a child born in Saudi of a foreign father and a Saudi mother.

The conditions include that the person has the status of permanent residence in the Kingdom when he or she comes of legal age, and is of good conduct and sound character and has not been convicted of a crime or with imprisonment for a period exceeding six months for an indecent act.

Fluency in the Arabic language is another requirement to be granted the Saudi citizenship.
