As part of an overall economic and social reform strategy, Saudi Arabia made it possible for women to apply to serve in the Armed Forces in 2019.

The first batch of Saudi Arabia's women soldiers graduated in 2021 from the Armed Forces Women’s Cadre Training Center.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that applications are now being accepted for a number of military positions for both men and women.
A high school diploma, a bachelor's degree, and a diploma are prerequisites for both genders. A diploma from an industrial secondary school is the sole qualification that is specific only to men.
Women are eligible to serve in the Saudi Arabian Army, Royal Saudi Air Defense, Royal Saudi Navy, Royal Saudi Strategic Missile Force, and Armed Forces Medical Services.

According to the ministry, women might be hired as soldiers, lance corporals, corporals, sergeants, and staff sergeants.
The action is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 strategy which brings forth reforms that help Saudi Arabian women grow in a variety of professions.
