Saudi Arabia Implements 50% Discount on Traffic Fines

Saudi Arabia's General Directorate of Traffic implemented a royal directive that orders a 50 percent discount on accumulated traffic fines. 

Conditions for the New Discount on Traffic Fines

This reduction in traffic fines is effective from Thursday, Apr. 18.

This new regulation implements the discount on all traffic fines before Apr. 18, 2024. All accumulated traffic fines must be paid within six months, from Apr. 18, 2024, to Oct. 18, 2024. 

The discount on traffic fines allows the individual to pay the traffic fines in one lump sum or separately for each violation.  

This new directive is supposed to help citizens and residents in Saudi Arabia by easing the financial burden of paying these traffic fines. 

Who Does Not Qualify for the Discount on Traffic Fines?

However, the Ministry of Interior has emphasized that committing certain traffic violations during the discount period will disqualify offenders from receiving the discount on traffic fines. 

The violations that will disqualify these offenders are:

• Drifting
• Driving under the influence of drugs or other banned substances
•  Exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h on roads with a speed limit of 120 km/h
• Exceeding the speed limit on roads by more than 30 km/h on roads with a speed limit of 140km/h

The directorate also shared that Article 75 of the Traffic Law will be applied to all traffic violations committed from Apr. 18 onwards,  offering a 25 percent discount on traffic fines 

If the traffic fines are still unpaid after the objection period and the expiration of the legally stipulated payment deadline, then Article 75 mandates imprisonment and enforcement. 

How to Pay the Traffic Fines?

Traffic fines can be paid at the  SADAD payment system and the Efaa platform, however, the directorate has warned the public against suspicious links and calls claiming to offer the payment service.
