Saudi Imposes Fines Up to SAR100k for Damaging Public Roads

Saudi Arabia has implemented strict fines for individuals or groups who damage or obstruct public infrastructure, including roads and flood drainage systems. Under the new law, violators could face fines of up to SAR 100,000 and are required to cover the full cost of repairs.

The penalties, approved by the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, aim to safeguard public facilities and ensure accountability. If multiple people are responsible for the damage, the fines will be divided among them, and cases may be referred to court for further action.

Specific Violations and Fines

The law outlines detailed penalties for various violations:

Unlicensed road or drainage work

Fines of up to 10% of repair costs, capped at SAR 100,000. Authorized work may see fines reduced to 5%.

Illegal cuts or encroachments

Fines of up to SAR 50,000 to restore affected areas.

Spilling petroleum or dropping debris on roads

Fines of up to SAR 3,000.

Tampering with utilities or damaging railways

Fines of up to SAR 3,000.

Doubling Penalties for Repeat Offenders

Repeat violations will result in doubled fines, reaching up to twice the maximum limit. This measure underscores the government's commitment to maintaining public infrastructure and deterring future offenses.
