For Muslims around the world, the sighting of the crescent moon signifies the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Pilgrims who plan to travel to Makkah can acquire permits to perform Umrah during Ramadan and to pray at the Rawdah in the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah by using the Nusuk app provided by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

The ministry advises pilgrims to perform Umrah only once during Ramadan to avoid overcrowding and allow others to perform the ritual.
