Hollywood Film 'Kandahar', Shot in KSA, Premieres in Saudi Cinemas

Hollywood film 'Kandahar', featuring Gerard Butler and shot mostly in Saudi Arabia, premiered in Saudi cinemas. 

The film premiered at Vox Cinemas in Riyadh on Wednesday, May 24th and opened to the public on Thursday, May 25th. Vox Cinemas will also host a screening at the Banyan Tree Hotel in AlUla. 

UAE's Eagle Films will release the film in the Middle East on Friday, May 26th. 

The film was shot at various sites in Jeddah, which are depicted as Tehran and Herat in the film. The film was also shot at Al Ula, which is depicted as rural Afghanistan in the film. 

The movie follows the story of an undercover CIA agent Tom Harris (Butler) and his translator who struggle to find their way out of a hostile territory in Afghanistan. 

Alongside Butler, Navid Negahban, Ali Fazal, Travis Fimmel, Elnaaz Norouzi, Rebecca Calder, Hakeem Jomah, and Nina Toussaint-White also star in the film. 

The film is directed by Rick Roman Waugh and the film was produced by MBC Studios, G-Base, Thunder Road and Capstone Studios. The Saudi Film Commission was also involved in the film's production in the Kingdom, which ran from 2021 to 2022.
