Meet the Artists Who Are Using the HUAWEI MatePad Air

Art is the expression of human creativity and imagination. It can take many forms, many styles, and different mediums. Similar to the evolution of art styles, art mediums also have always been constantly evolving. Now, it is possible to create art without any paint, paper, or canvas. While this offers many advantages, it also means new challenges. These days, many artists are known for employing smart tools to their advantage and creating magnificent artwork with their help.

But how do these artists deal with the evolution and change? How does the expression of creative vision shape in the digital age? We talked to two artists who used the HUAWEI tablet MatePad Air in their recent artwork. They shared their vision and experiences with us.

Shahul Hameed is a mural painter who runs an art studio in Dubai. He shared his journey to becoming a well-known name in the art scene. It was his passion for colours that brought him into the world of creativity. He found using great joy in crafting different colour palettes. In the beginning, he was predominantly attracted to intense hues. However, as he matured as an artist, he adopted a more nuanced approach. His more recent works have a flatter style but with more deliberate and defined features.

As a mural artist, Shahul’s canvases are usually grand in size. This massive scale brings with it some massive challenges, as well. So before the first stroke of paint is put on the wall, he has to ideate it on a smaller scale. And tablets have always been his go-to choice for this because of the flexibility that they provide. Determining the mood and trying different colour palettes are easier done on a tablet. He can change and mix colours to his heart’s content with a tablet and a stylus. Only when the concept is refined and solidified will he move on to the last phase of his work, which is putting his artistic vision onto a wall or a sidewalk.

We also spoke to Ismail bin Abdulrahman, an artist based in Dubai who is trying to bring the beauty of Arabic calligraphy to the world. His unique style combines traditional calligraphy with a touch of futurism. Even though his canvas sizes aren’t as big, he too has found tablets to be a great companion in his creative process.

The biggest advantage of making art digitally is that it’s much easier to fix things later. A bad stroke or a wrong colour doesn’t ruin the painting. Both Shahul and Ismail are optimistic about the possibilities of the digital age. Ismail shared a similar sentiment.
