A Saudi citizen has been sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labour and fined 336,000 Kuwaiti dinars by a Kuwaiti criminal court for forging a naturalisation application to illegally obtain Kuwaiti citizenship and a position in the Ministry of Defence.

According to the court, the man faked documents and falsely claimed he was the biological son of a Kuwaiti citizen. This fraudulent claim not only earned him Kuwaiti nationality but also led to his appointment as a sergeant in the Ministry of Defence.
The Kuwaiti citizen who allegedly “adopted” him into the family was also convicted and handed a seven-year sentence, alongside the Saudi man’s real father, who was found complicit in the scheme.
The case came to light when the accused was caught at the Salmi border crossing while attempting to flee the country. Authorities found both a Saudi ID and a Kuwaiti civil ID in his possession. Investigations later revealed that the man was trying to escape a mountain of financial obligations, including unpaid bank loans.
The court didn’t hold back in its ruling, describing the act as a “serious breach of public trust and national integrity.” It added that the defendants had launched a “blatant attack on national identity” and tampered with official documents in a way that undermines state sovereignty.
Kuwait continues to crack down on citizenship fraud, which has been a recurring issue in the Gulf state. This case is a stark reminder of the country’s zero-tolerance stance on forging identity and infiltrating government institutions through unlawful means.
