Mina's Tent City Ready as Over 1.5M Pilgrims Begin Hajj

More than 1.5 million pilgrims are set to arrive in Mina on Wednesday, June 4, to mark the start of Hajj 2025. Known as the Day of Tarwiyah, this begins the spiritual journey that culminates with the standing at Arafat on June 5.

Mina, located about 5km east of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, will be the first stop for pilgrims before they head to Arafat at dawn the next day. This marks one of the most important phases of Hajj.

Tent City Fully Prepped to Host Pilgrims

Aerial photos shared by Saudi Press Agency showed a well-lit Mina at night, with thousands of high-tech white tents ready to receive the crowds. The tents are fire-resistant and equipped with basic needs to ensure the safety and comfort of every pilgrim.

Spanning an area capable of hosting more than 2.6 million people, the Tent City features modern infrastructure, including air conditioning, sanitation, and clear roadways for easy access.

Infrastructure in Place for Smooth Movement

Roads, bridges, and tunnels are all set up to allow pilgrims to move easily between Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah — key Hajj sites. Buses, government vehicles, and inspection teams are actively preparing for the massive crowd expected this year.

The Jamarat Complex, where pilgrims perform the symbolic stoning of the devil, is also being inspected and prepared to handle the large flow of people safely.

What to Expect Next

After spending the night in Mina, pilgrims will proceed to Arafat early on Thursday, June 5. This is considered the most crucial part of Hajj, as standing at Arafat is the peak of the pilgrimage.

As Saudi Arabia welcomes one of the largest gatherings in the world, all eyes are on how the holy sites will accommodate the influx while ensuring safety and order.
