Saudi Arabia's citizens are now able to activate their national identity (ID) cards electronically through the Ministry of Interior's Absher platform.

This service is a part of four new services launched under the patronage of Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, within the framework of the ministry's support for digital transformation.

The other services include the service of requesting postal delivery of the ID card while issuing it for the first time, the smart assistant service for uploading the personal image in the national identity services, and the launch of the "my updated data" service.

This move "comes within the advanced steps of electronic transactions to save time and effort as well as to improve the quality of civil status services provided to them," Acting Deputy Minister of Interior for Civil Status, Sulaiman Al-Yahya, was quoted as saying by Saudi Gazette.

Beneficiaries will be able to apply for the service the Absher platform, as well as the Absher application for smart phones.
