President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, emphasizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to enhance, not replace, existing human jobs. Contrary to concerns, a recent study by the International Labor Organization suggests that AI will automate specific tasks while coexisting with human responsibilities.

Anticipating a significant impact, Al-Ghamdi cites a World Economic Forum report, projecting the creation of 69 million jobs in the next five years through AI. He delivered these insights during a speech at the inaugural international labor market conference organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in Riyadh.

Al-Ghamdi underscores that the evolution of the labor market towards AI is an opportunity to augment human capabilities rather than a threat to jobs, provided proper policies and regulations are in place. Notably, he emphasizes that AI adoption will give priority to individuals occupying available positions.

Recognizing the dynamic changes in job titles, such as AI Engineer, AI Researcher, Data Scientist, AI Artist, AI Writer, Input Engineer, and Content Expert, Al-Ghamdi acknowledges the strategic challenges posed by a shortage of skilled employees in new areas.

He said, "Statistics indicate that about 77% of companies worldwide find it difficult to find the talents they need in 2023, a significant increase from 38% in 2015."

To address this, a royal decree in 2019 established SDAIA, leading the AI and big data agenda in Saudi Arabia. Al-Ghamdi outlines the proactive steps taken, including the national AI strategy launched in 2020, aiming to transform the AI revolution into a supporter of the labor market.

The national AI strategy focuses on inspiring interest, building and empowering specialists, and sustaining solutions by distinguished experts. In the inspiration phase, SDAIA has already raised awareness among 600,000 people, targeting 40% awareness among public and private sector employees by 2030.

These initiatives align with Saudi Arabia's commitment to qualify 20,000 specialists and raise awareness among 40% of the workforce in data and AI fields, positioning the Kingdom at the forefront of the AI revolution and ensuring a skilled talent pool for the future.
