Saudi Arabia Ranks First Globally in AI Competition

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia secured a remarkable victory, claiming the most medals at the World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY). The event, held from December 2nd to 3rd at the prestigious King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), concluded with Saudi Arabia winning a total of 11 medals.

Global Recognition and Participants

The announcement, made public by WAICY on Wednesday, revealed the Kingdom’s outstanding performance, surpassing other participating nations. Notably, the United States secured 10 medals, while India and Greece received two medals each. Additionally, Canada and Singapore were honored with one medal each.

Participation and Recognition

Over 18,000 students from 40 countries engaged in the competition hosted within the Kingdom. This event, organized by the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with KAUST, featured students from various educational levels—elementary, middle, and high school—representing prominent institutions such as Misk, Dhahran, Madac, Aramco, AlUla, NEOM, and KAUST. These participants competed across three tracks: AI showcase, AI-generated art, and AI large language model.

For their relentless dedication and outstanding contributions to fostering AI education, SDAIA and KAUST received the esteemed Global Outstanding Organization Award. This recognition highlights their concerted efforts to empower young minds and prepare them for the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.
