Saudi Arabia to Renovate 1,300-Year-Old Mosque in Al Baha

Saudi Arabia will carry out a comprehensive renovation plan on Al-Safa historical mosque built nearly 1,350 years ago, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

This step comes under the second phase of the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques.

The mosque represents one of the Kingdom's oldest mosques in the Al Baha region, and was first built by Sufyan bin Auf al-Ghamdi over an area of 78 square meters. It can accommodate about 31 worshippers.

The mosque was also "considered a place for villagers to assemble and discuss their affairs and resolve their disputes" during that time, the report said.

The renovation project will ensure the preservation of the mosque's unique Sarat style and its historical value, while restoring its aesthetic elements and renewing its construction with natural materials.

During the first phase of the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques, 30 mosques were restored at a cost of SAR 50 million.
