Saudi Ministry Bans Iftar in Mosques During Ramadan

The Saudi Arabian government has taken a decisive step by prohibiting iftar meals within mosques during the upcoming Ramadan period. Concerns about maintaining cleanliness within mosque premises following the iftar meal prompted the decision.

Restrictions on Iftar Projects Inside Mosques

According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, iftar projects are no longer permitted within mosque premises due to cleanliness concerns. The directive specifies that mosque imams and muezzins must identify suitable areas in the courtyards for iftar gatherings. Notably, the notice explicitly prohibits the creation of temporary rooms or tents for this purpose.

Financial Collections for Iftar Projects Discouraged

The ministry emphasized that mosque leaders should refrain from collecting financial donations for iftar projects benefiting those observing the fast. This move aims to streamline the organization of iftar activities and ensure transparency in resource allocation.

Additional Guidelines: No Cameras, No Broadcasts

The government also discourages the use of cameras and photography within mosque premises. Furthermore, prayers conducted inside mosques are not to be broadcast through any media, including online platforms.
