Saudi Arabia's First Grand Opera will Debut on This Date

Saudi Arabia's first grand opera, titled 'Zarqa Al Yamamawill debut in Riyadh in April and run till the beginning of May.

The production will feature the best international artists as well as local talents. 

Cast and Composers of Saudi's First Grand Opera

The principal vocal cast in the title role will be led by the famous mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Conolly.

She will be accompanied by nine Saudi musicians including Khayran Al-Zahrani, Sawsan Al-Bahiti, and Reemaz Oqbi.

Internationally renowned artists who will take the stage alongside these artists will be Clive Bayley, Amelia Wawrzon, Serena Farnocchia, Paride Cataldo, and George von Bergen.

The production's score is original and it is written and composed by Lee Bradshaw, while the libretto is composed by Saudi writer and poet Saleh Zamanan.

The opera production's visual and staging effects will be created by expert Daniele Finzi Pasca so that everything is perfect for opening night. 

The production is commissioned by the Minister of Culture, His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud.

What is 'Zarqa Al Yamama' About?

'Zarqa Al Yamama' is an ancient tale about a Jadis woman with the gift of foresight, which helps her foresee a rival army threatening to destroy her people. 

The story revolves around how this woman makes efforts to warn her tribe's leader and advisors about the imminent danger.
