Saudi’s Red Sea International Airport to Open This Summer

Saudi Arabia’s mega-project destination, The Red Sea will inaugurate its first international airport this summer, Red Sea Global’s (RSG) CEO John Pagano told the Gulf Insider.

The airport will initially only handle domestic arrivals before expanding to handle international flights by the end of the next year.

“Our Red Sea International Airport opens this summer, with the capacity to handle domestic arrivals, and by 2024, it will accommodate international flights,” he said.

The airport will be a fully functional boutique airport designed to accommodate all sizes of aircraft, including private jets and the Airbus A380.

Additionally, it will be the only airport in the area with a separate seaplane runway.

As with the other Red Sea Global destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, the Red Sea International Airport will only be powered by renewable energy, according to Pagano.

“There will be no baggage claims area at the new airport. “Instead luggage will be delivered to guests’ hotel room to shorten processing times,” the official website read. The airport will also feature state-of-the-art amenities including a spa, and high-quality restaurants and is expected to serve one million passengers.

“We aim for it to become the first carbon-neutral airport in the Middle East,” Pagano said. “This represents a huge milestone for Red Sea Global, and it means we will become the first of Saudi Arabia’s original giga-projects to receive visitors,” he concluded.

The Red Sea is encircled by the fourth-largest barrier reef system in the world, which covers an area of approximately 28,000 square kilometers.

More than 90 uninhabited islands, immaculate beaches, dormant volcanoes, and other features will be present at the location.
