‘Tomb Raider’ Director to Shoot His Next Movie 'Antara' in NEOM

"Tomb Raider" director Simon West is set to head to Saudi Arabia's NEOM to shoot his upcoming epic historical drama movie, "Antara", with production scheduled to span 12 weeks, starting early in 2024.

The English-language film delves into the remarkable life of Antara ibn Shaddad, a slave warrior who was propelled to fame in the sixth century after winning his freedom and becoming a beloved knight and the most celebrated poet in Arabian history.

The casting on "Antara", however, has not been disclosed.

Additionally, the film will showcase the picturesque nearby 468-kilometre stretch of Red Sea coastline.

Simon West said in a statement: "Bringing the story of Antara ibn Shaddad to the big screen and the masses is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to continue his legend. The opportunity to film in the homeland of the Banu Abs tribe means we will keep true to the piece whilst helping to grow the emerging film industry in the region. It’s a project I'm thrilled to be involved with and I am looking forward to creating something unique for a global audience."

This film is co-produced by writer and producer Alexander Amartei and producer Stuart Sutherland. Sutherland boasts an impressive portfolio including Killing Eve, Born A King, and The Man Who Fell To Earth.
