What is the New UNESCO World Heritage Site in Saudi Arabia?

People of Saudi Arabia will be happy to know that the Uruq Bani Ma'arid Reserve has been made a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The reserve is the seventh UNESCO World Heritage site in the Kingdom.

It is also the first UNESCO Natural Heritage Site in Saudi Arabia.

Uruq Bani Ma'arid Reserve is located along the western edge of Ar-Rub al-Khali, The Empty Quarter.

The reserve is the only major sand desert in tropical Asia with an area of 12,750 kilometers square and the largest continuous sand sea on Earth.

The news was shared by the Minister of Culture Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud ahead of the 93rd Saudi National Day.

The decision came about at the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in Riyadh.

Along with the Uruq Bani Ma'arid Reserve, Al Ahsa Oasis, Al Hikr Archaeological Site, Turaif in Diriyah, Hima Cultural Area, Al Balad, and Hail Region’s Rock Art are also UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Kingdom!
