Employees to Enjoy a Long Weekend in Celebration of Saudi Founding Day

Employees in Saudi Arabia will enjoy a long weekend with an official holiday on February 22–23 as the Kingdom prepares to mark its “Founding Day” for the second year.

Employees in the public and private sectors are both given the day off on Wednesday, February 22. Employees in the public sector will also get Thursday, February 23, off, for a total of four days off in addition to the regular two-day weekend.

Many private businesses have already announced that Thursday will be a holiday, however, individual businesses will eventually decide whether to follow the same.

According to a royal decree issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz last year, Saudi Arabia has declared February 22 as a national holiday to celebrate the Saudi Founding Day. The first Saudi state was founded in 1727 under the direction of Imam Muhammad bin Saud, which is where the origin of "Founding Day" can be traced back three centuries.
