Doctors Arrested for Hiring Illegal Staff to Perform 18,953 Surgeries

Two doctors have been detained by Saudi Arabia's Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), according to a statement released on Tuesday. The doctors paid unlicensed individuals to perform 18,953 surgeries on their behalf and fabricated medical records to indicate that they performed the procedures themselves.

Nazaha claims that the two surgeons demanded more than $23 million in compensation from the hospital for the surgeries. It was added by the authority that legal action had been taken in 17 more corruption cases and that there were ongoing court procedures against individuals accused.

Nazaha asserted that they would keep going after anyone found using their position of public trust for their own gain or endangering the public in any way. As stated by an official source with the Control and Anti-Corruption Authority, the agency has recently started a number of criminal cases and is pursuing regular legal action against the offenders, with this case being the most noteworthy.
