Saudi Arabia's General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 12,729,000 amphetamine pills into Jeddah.

The official spokesperson of GDNC, Major Marwan Al-Hazmi, said that this huge quantity of amphetamine pills was found hidden as a pomegranate consignment at the Jeddah Islamic Port.

The seizure operation was carried out in cooperation with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA).

Al-Hazmi said that the security follow-up of the smuggling networks resulted in the pills' seizure.

He added that the four individuals who were receiving this quantity got arrested, two of them are Egyptians, and the other two are a Yemeni and a Syrian.

Al-Hazmi confirmed that the accused were referred to the Public Prosecution.
